Comenzó siendo una iglesia visigoda, luego mezquita y más tarde catedral. Es una combinación de estilos superpuestos.

Esta hermosa mezquita hace que los visitantes queden impactados por su asombrosa belleza arquitectónica posee una leyenda que no todo el mundo conoce. Más allá de su belleza de sus columnas de mármol, jaspe y granito. Estas tienen su propia leyenda

La historia  cuenta que un joven cristiano que trabajaba en una huerta se enamoró de una muchacha árabe que compraba sus verduras. Él le pidió que se casaran y ella accedió convertirse en cristiana. La noche en la que la dama se iba a ser bautizada, unos soldados romanos la mataron, tirando su cuerpo al rio. Al joven lo arrestaron atándolo en una de las columnas de la mezquita, donde la gente pasaba y los insultaba.

Mientras  estuvo prisionero, intento mantener su fe intacta,  comenzando a realizar una cruz con su uña sobre la superficie del mármol. Se puede ver hoy en día tras una reja.

The story goes that a young Christian who worked in a garden fell in love with an Arab girl who bought his vegetables. He asked her to marry him and she agreed to become a Christian. The night the lady was going to be baptized, some Roman soldiers killed her, throwing her body into the river. The young man was arrested by tying him to one of the columns of the mosque, where people passed by and insulted them.

While he was imprisoned, he tried to keep his faith intact, starting to make a cross with his fingernail on the surface of the marble. It can be seen today behind a fence.
