ARTISTAS DEL MUNDO MEXICO Niurka Guzmán Otañez

Volvemos a viajar por la seccion a Artistas del mundo a conocer a Niurka Guzmán Otañez Nace en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana en 1981. Radica en la Ciudad de México. Licenciada en Publicidad por la Universidad APEC en Santo Domingo. En el 2004 participa en la especialidad en Bellas Artes e Ilustración en la Escuela de Diseño de Altos de Chavón, La Romana. En el año 2009  se recibió de Magíster en Artes Visuales en la Academia de San Carlos de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

Ella se define como una artista visual que en su obra conviven lo gestual, abstracto y figurativo la superposiciones, es una fusión grafica - pictorica.

¿Como nace tu interés por el arte?

Desde niña me intereso el arte, principalmente el dibujo y la pintura. Durante mis años de preparatoria me destaque en la escuela en el área de pintura, y a los 14 años inicie clases particulares de dibujo y pintura con el Mtro. Miguel Valenzuela un artista muy destacado en el mundo del arte Dominicano que me transmitió la sensibilidad y pasión en el manejo del color, estuvo estudiando en su taller alrededor de 4 años. Estos talleres despertaron aun mas mi amor y curiosidad por aprender y en estos años fue cuando decidí que quería ser artista profesional. Finalmente entre a la escuela de arte y desde entonces nunca he dejado de pintar, diseñar, dibujar y crear. Profesionalmente tengo alrededor de 20 años en el arte. En el 2006 vine a estudiar una maestría en la UNAM en la ciudad de Mexico; la tradición artistica, los grandes artistas y talleres de grabados existentes en esta ciudad ampliaron mi visión e hicieron que creciera aun mas mi pasión por el grabado. Desde entonces combino en mi obra los recursos plásticos del grabado y diferentes técnicas con la pintura.

¿Qué factores marcaron tu camino? 

Definitivamente el estudiar en la prestigiosa escuela de Altos de Chavón creo fue el primer parte aguas en mi camino. ES una escuela increíble con una gran disciplina en cuanto a la producción y ritmo de trabajo. Con una visión del arte muy vanguardista y además con gran influencia didáctica de la Escuela Americana e Inglesa por ser filial a Parsons School en New York, así que aquí se me abre un mundo de posibilidades en la visión clásica que tenía hasta ese momento de la creación artística.  Otro punto de inflexión fue venir a Mexico a estudiar. La Academia de San Carlos es una escuela con una gran tradición de producción artística y con un espíritu revolucionario, crítico sobre su entornó. Allí se formaron los grandes muralistas Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco y Siqueiros, así como otros grandes artistas de la plástica Mexicana.  Me convertí en una amante Del movimiento Muralista Mexicano con sus alucinantes alegorías, su contenido social y político, una técnica y expresividad en las formas y figuras, son piezas de Arte Extraordinarias y que te inspiran a querer aprender más y más.

También fue muy importante encontrarme con la Creación gráfica tan extensa y poderosa qué hay en México. Una disciplina la cual tiene una tradición a la par con la pintura en cuanto a reconocimiento e importancia en el desarrollo de la historia, social, política y artística del país. Aproveche la oportunidad y entre a cada taller de grafica de la academia que me fue posible y absorbí todo el conocimiento que me fue brindado por los grandes maestros y artistas grabadores con los que tuve el privilegio de compartir.

¿Quienes son tus referentes artísticos?

José Alfaro Siqueiros, Paula Regó, Salvador Dalí, David Hockney, Edward Hopper, Jenny Saville, Francis Bacon, Francisco de Goya, Lucían Freud, y los movimientos impresionistas, expresionistas y Surrealistas a los cuales le he dedicado bastante tiempo de estudios y me apasionan inmensamente y de vez en cuando regreso a ellos.

¿Cuál de tus obras es la favorita? por qué? 

Es muy difícil elegir una favorita, cada pieza creada te da tanto de sí y hay tanto de ti en ella, que cada obra es un ente especial y único. 

¿Como ha influido la pandemia en tus creaciones? 

La Pandemia fue una gran oportunidad para crear, y me hizo profundizar más en mi ser interior, despertó en mi mucho más amor propio y por  la humanidad. Realice varios dibujos, pinturas y grabado con la intención de captar lo espiritual, nuestro poder interior, lo cósmico, lo universal y el amor.  Cambie mi atención de percibir lo femenino desde el exterior y las construcciones sociales que se han realizado a lo largo de la historia, por una perspectiva más íntima conectada con nuestro poder interno y con la historia de muchas otras mujeres que han vívido más en armonía con sus ciclos y su propia naturaleza.

En cuanto a la difusión de mi arte, participe en varias exhibiciones virtuales y creamos una plataforma de Subastas de Arte Virtual en la página de Facebook de Galo Art Studio con bastante éxitos y las cuales hoy en día seguimos haciendo cada 3 o 4 meses. Galo Art Studio es un espacio de producción artístico con más de 30 años de funcionamiento en la Isla de Cozumel, fundado por el artista Galo Ramirez, es todo un referente del arte en la región. 

¿Qué te sensibiliza?

El goce estético de la aplicación de lo matérico, ensuciarme con los materiales, lo físico en la pintura y el grabado, disfruto mucho los diferentes procesos de creación. La composición, el proceso creativo de llevar físicamente todas las ideas que tengo en mi cabeza.

Mi obra está inspirada completamente en mi entorno social y cultural. Me nutro de el y a través de mi obra me cuestiono y reflexiono sobre lo femenino. Con mis imágenes pretendo impactar de tal manera en el espectador, que este se cuestione lo que "es", cuales características lo definen como sujeto y como se relaciona con la sociedad y la colectividad. Se trata de lograr que las mujeres recuerden quienes son y que es lo que se proponen y encuentren en su interior la fuerza que las sostiene y las hace diferente de la colectividad.

Este proceso hace que mi obra a la vez sea una especie de auto conocimiento y reconocimiento de la percepción de mi entorno y como este ha impactado en mi formación como mujer.

Contanos un poco las obras que estamos viendo

La Gráfica y la Pintura son para mi ese flujo de energía inagotable en la que puedo desplazarme, plegarme y desplegarme libremente. Me centro en el gesto cargado de la vibración y energía vital de mis pensamientos, memorias y visiones. Me inspiro en la agitación contemporánea, en los acontecimientos de la vida cotidiana que me marcan y me llevan a la reflexión.

En mi obra conviven la mancha gestual, lo abstracto con lo figurativo, la textura y el relieve, las superposiciones de color, es una fusión gráfica-pictórica.

How was your interest in art born?

Since I was a child I have been interested in art, mainly drawing and painting. During my high school years I stood out in the school in the area of ​​painting, and at the age of 14 I started private drawing and painting classes with Mtro. Miguel Valenzuela, a very prominent artist in the Dominican art world who transmitted to me the sensitivity and passion in handling color, was studying in his workshop for around 4 years. These workshops aroused even more my love and curiosity to learn and in these years it was when I decided that I wanted to be a professional artist. I finally entered art school and since then I have never stopped painting, designing, drawing and creating. Professionally I have about 20 years in art. In 2006 I came to study for a master's degree at UNAM in Mexico City; the artistic tradition, the great artists and existing engraving workshops in this city broadened my vision and made my passion for engraving grow even more. Since then I combine in my work the plastic resources of engraving and different techniques with painting.

What factors marked your path?

Definitely, studying at the prestigious Altos de Chavón school was, I think, the first watershed in my path. It IS an amazing school with great discipline in terms of production and work pace. With a very avant-garde vision of art and also with great didactic influence from the American and English School for being a subsidiary of Parsons School in New York, so here a world of possibilities opens up to me in the classical vision that I had up to that moment of art. artistic creation. Another turning point was coming to Mexico to study. The Academy of San Carlos is a school with a great tradition of artistic production and with a revolutionary spirit, critical of its surroundings. The great muralists Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and Siqueiros were trained there, as well as other great Mexican plastic artists. I became a lover of the Mexican Muralist movement with its amazing allegories, its social and political content, a technique and expressiveness in shapes and figures, they are extraordinary pieces of art that inspire you to want to learn more and more.

It was also very important to meet the extensive and powerful graphic creation that exists in Mexico. A discipline which has a tradition on par with painting in terms of recognition and importance in the development of the country's history, social, political and artistic. I took advantage of the opportunity and entered every graphics workshop of the academy that was possible for me and absorbed all the knowledge that was given to me by the great masters and printmakers with whom I had the privilege of sharing.

Who are your artistic references?

José Alfaro Siqueiros, Paula Regó, Salvador Dalí, David Hockney, Edward Hopper, Jenny Saville, Francis Bacon, Francisco de Goya, Lucian Freud, and the Impressionist, Expressionist and Surrealist movements to which I have dedicated a lot of time studying and I am passionate about immensely and from time to time I return to them.

Which of your works is your favourite? why?

It is very difficult to choose a favorite, each created piece gives you so much of itself and there is so much of you in it, that each work is a special and unique entity.

How has the pandemic influenced your creations?

The Pandemic was a great opportunity to create, and it made me delve deeper into my inner being, it awakened in me much more love for myself and for humanity. Make various drawings, paintings and engravings with the intention of capturing the spiritual, our inner power, the cosmic, the universal and love. I changed my attention from perceiving the feminine from the outside and the social constructions that have been made throughout history, for a more intimate perspective connected with our internal power and with the history of many other women who have lived more in harmony with its cycles and its own nature.

As for the dissemination of my art, I participated in several virtual exhibitions and we created a platform for Virtual Art Auctions on the Galo Art Studio Facebook page with considerable success and which we continue to do every 3 or 4 months today. Galo Art Studio is an artistic production space with more than 30 years of operation on the Island of Cozumel, founded by the artist Galo Ramirez, it is a benchmark for art in the region.

What sensitizes you?

The aesthetic enjoyment of the application of the material, getting dirty with the materials, the physical in painting and engraving, I really enjoy the different creation processes. The composition, the creative process of physically carrying all the ideas that I have in my head.

My work is completely inspired by my social and cultural environment. I feed on it and through my work I question and reflect on the feminine. With my images I intend to impact the viewer in such a way that he questions what "he is", what characteristics define him as a subject and how he relates to society and the community. It is about getting women to remember who they are and what they are up to and find within themselves the strength that sustains them and makes them different from the community.

This process makes my work at the same time a kind of self-knowledge and recognition of the perception of my environment and how it has impacted my formation as a woman.

Tell us a little about the works we are seeing

Graphics and Painting are for me that flow of inexhaustible energy in which I can move, fold and unfold freely. I focus on the gesture charged with the vibration and vital energy of my thoughts, memories and visions. I am inspired by contemporary agitation, by the events of everyday life that mark me and lead me to reflection.

In my work, the gestural stain coexists, the abstract with the figurative, the texture and the relief, the color superimpositions, it is a graphic-pictorial fusion.
