María Anna Angelika Katharina Kauffmann nació en 1741, fue una pintora suiza del periodo neoclásico. su talento fue descubierto por su padre era pintor Joseph Johann Kauffmann , nunca fue reconocido. pero si muy buen maestro de María.
María con tan solo 12 años ya era una pintora reconocida pintando para el obispo y nobles de la ciudad. En 1754 viajo a Milán con su padre para perfeccionar su pintura.
Era una pintora de la linea del Rococó, pero su gran destaque fue durante el periodo Neoclasicista, fruto de los viajes antes mencionados durante los años 1762 y 1763.
Fue una artistas muy prolifera llego a pintar mas de 500 obras con temática historia y mitológica.
Viajo durante un tiempo en Londres y luego se traslado a Italia donde pinto sus obras mas maravillosas como el "Blanco de cupido" 1793.
Lady Wentworth la presento a la alta sociedad inglesa, y siendo bien recibida en todas partes, pintando a la la familia real. Integrantó fundador de la Royal Academy of arts, realizo numerosos trabajos de decoración.
Se caso en secreto con un conde sueco que tenia fama de ser aventurero, dicho matrimonito termino siendo un fracaso.
Su desaparición fue mus dolorosa para los artistas romanos que fueron a despedirse y darle su ultimo adiós
