Artemisia Gentileschi Fue una pintora de estilo barroco Italiana, nacida el 8 de julio de 1593 en Roma.

Su talento fue descubierta por su padre, quien también un pintor que tenia su propio taller, Orazio Gentileschi, fue uno de los grandes seguidores de la escuela de Caravaggio. Su padre la formo en el dibujo y el fuerte naturalismo. Es sus obras pinto temas históricos y religiosos

En el año 1611 con 18 años, su padre decidió que Artemisia tomara clases con el pintor Agostino Tassi, quien era amigo de su padre. Este hombre la violo, este horrible acontecimiento marco su vida y su pintura. Su padre denuncia a Tassi por el abuso y por no cumplir con el compromiso de casamiento ya que este estaba casado. Artemisia en el proceso fue torturada mientras era entrevistada. Tassi fue condenado a prisión.

Artemisia comenzó sus primeros pasos en Roma , su carrera artística fue creciendo en diversas ciudades italianas. Fue la primera mujer en ser admitida en la academia de arte de Florencia fundada por Giorgio Vasari.

Viajo a Londres durante el año 1638 hasta 1641 donde trabajo para Carlos I de Inglaterra junto con su padre. Su obra se caracteriza por un excelente manejo del claroscuro y el dramatisto en la interpretación de las obras.

I travel to London during the year 1638 to 1641 where I work for Carlos I of England along with his father. His work is characterized by an excellent handling of chiaroscuro and the dramatist in the interpretation of the works.
