King Crimson es una banda de Rock Progresivo formada en 1969 en Londres, Inglaterra.
Su estilo artístico no se logra encasillar en un sólo estilo especifico, ya que abarca otras aristas musicales como el ArtRock, Rock Experimental, entre otros estilos que transgredieron a tal punto de influenciar a artistas y músicos contemporáneos, y también forjando la escena musical Progresiva desde la fecha de su creación.
El único miembro constante, y de hecho, el miembro fundador de mayor data y permanencia en la banda; que por cierto, ha mutado y se ha logrado reformular a ella misma en varias ocasiones, formando distintas “eras”, y por lo tanto trasmutando su estilo sonoro a través del tiempo y su larga trayectoria de 52 años hasta el día de hoy, con diferentes miembros importantes, los cuales fueron de suma importancia para forjar la leyenda en la que se ha transformado King Crimson hasta la fecha. Es una banda de suma importancia para la historia del Rock Progresivo, y para el Rock en general, ya que con su estilo único (el cual es tan exquisitamente diverso) ha logrado cautivar innumerables fanáticos a través de los años, incluyendo a las nuevas generaciones. En el caso del arte de los discos, vinilos y ediciones especiales no se queda atrás, ya que cuenta con numerosas portadas y ArtWorks llenos de elegancia, belleza estilística y que son memorables a la vista del espectador. Fiel al concepto Crimsoniano. En ese trabajo estilístico y visual han trabajado artistas de renombre como PJ Crook, y la legendaria portada de “In The Court Of The Crimson King” hecha por el artista Barry Godber, la cual es el emblema visual de la banda, la cual todo melómano, musico y aficionado a la música logra identificar a primera vista.
King Crimson ha formado parte de mi estilo pictórico a través de los años y desde que comencé a indagar en el camino del arte visual ligado a la música, siendo de vital importancia para el nacimiento de muchas obras pictóricas dedicadas a la escena musical. He retratado en varias ocasiones a las diferentes formaciones, utilizando tintas y aguadas, la cual es la técnica que mas me identifica por su solemnidad y elegancia visual.
En esta ocasión les quiero hablar de una de las pinturas más significativas de mi catálogo dedicado a King Crimson, incluso llegando a los ojos del miembro fundador Robert Fripp, lo cual me llena de orgullo y honor.
Esta obra de 29,7X42 cm hecha con tintas puras y diluidas pintada con técnica de capa sobre capa, sobre papel para técnicas húmedas Canson de 300gr, y pinceles de pelo sintético (no uso material de origen animal) de distintas graduaciones, dan vida a la pintura titulada “King Crimson 1973”, la cual retrata un primer plano con la sutileza, elegancia y belleza que nos brinda el contraste en blanco y negro, junto a todos los matices que se pueden lograr con diferentes graduaciones de pigmento y por supuesto con el trabajo en capas, el cual le da un aspecto fluido y natural
Esta fotografía que decidí interpretar fue tomada en 1973, para la sesión de Starless and Bible Black la cual capta y retrata a Robert Fripp (guitarra y mellotrón), John Wetton (bajo y voz), David Cross (violín, viola, mellotron y piano eléctrico) y Bill Bruford (batería y percusión) en un perfecto primer plano. El cual quise transmitir con la mayor precisión y exactitud en el papel, y sobre todo captar las miradas de cada integrante, entregando una mirada penetrante y cautivadora. Tal como lo es el pasaje sonoro que nos ha entregado esta banda durante 52 años en sólo un instante, un instante que se titula “King Crimson 1973”

King Crimson has been part of my pictorial style through the years and since I began to investigate the path of visual art linked to music, being of vital importance for the birth of many pictorial works dedicated to the music scene. I have portrayed the different formations on several occasions, using inks and washes, which is the technique that most identifies me for its solemnity and visual elegance.
This time I want to tell you about one of the most significant paintings in my catalog dedicated to King Crimson, even reaching the eyes of founding member Robert Fripp, which fills me with pride and honor.
This 29.7X42 cm work made with pure and diluted inks painted with layer-over-layer technique, on 300gr Canson paper for wet techniques, and synthetic hair brushes (I do not use material of animal origin) of different graduations, give life to the painting titled “King Crimson 1973”, which portrays a close-up with the subtlety, elegance and beauty that the contrast in black and white gives us, along with all the nuances that can be achieved with different pigment graduations and of course with layered work, which gives a fluid and natural look
This photograph that I decided to interpret was taken in 1973, for the Starless and Bible Black session which captures and portrays Robert Fripp (guitar and mellotron), John Wetton (bass and voice), David Cross (violin, viola, mellotron and piano electric) and Bill Bruford (drums and percussion) in a perfect close-up. Which I wanted to convey with the greatest precision and accuracy on paper, and above all to capture the gaze of each member, delivering a penetrating and captivating gaze. As is the sound passage that this band has given us for 52 years in just an instant, an instant that is titled "King Crimson 1973"
