"NACIMIENTO DE ILARGI" ALEJANDRA ETCHEVERRY NOS HABLA DE SU OBRA
Nacimiento de Ilargi
La Tierra, según muchas leyendas de Euskal Herria, es la madre del Sol y de la Luna. También es considerada como un lugar inmenso, que sirve como morada para las almas de los difuntos, y la mayoría de los númenes y otros personajes míticos.
El Sol y la Luna son divinidades femeninas, hijas de la Tierra. Y a su seno vuelven todos los días después de su recorrido por el cielo.
Uno de los días de la semana ha sido consagrado a la Luna: los viernes. Se llama ostiral, palabra que tiene un elemento común con Ilargi, otro de los nombres con el que se conoce a la Luna.
Cuenta la leyenda que al inicio de los tiempos, cuando los hombres comenzaron a poblar la tierra, no existían ni sol ni luna y se encontraban inmersos en una gran oscuridad, asustados por numerosas criaturas, como dragones, brujas, caballos voladores genios, etc.
Finalmente en su desesperación decidieron pedir ayuda a AMALUR (madre tierra en euskera).
Ante la insistencia AMALUR les dijo: “Hijos mios, pedís ayuda y os la ofreceré. Crearé un ser luminoso al que llamaréis ILARGI(luna)”.
Así, AMALUR creo la luna, que con su brillo pálido iluminó la noche.
Al principio los hombres no se atrevieron a salir pero, al ver que los genios malignos huían de la luz de ILARGI, salieron a celebrarlo. Ocurrió que el susto de los genios no duró para siempre y, poco a poco, se acostumbraron a su luz y no tardaron en volver a salir de sus simas y acosar a los humanos.
Los hombres acudieron otra vez a AMALUR pidiéndole algo mas poderoso.
– “AMALUR. te estamos muy agradecidos porque nos has regalado a la madre luna, pero necesitamos algo más poderoso puesto que los genios no dejan de perseguirnos”.
– “De acuerdo -dijo AMALUR”- crearé un ser todavía más luminoso que llamaréis EGUZKI.
Y AMALUR creó el Sol. De esta forma, el sol iluminaría el día y la luna la noche.
En el cuadro están representadas la luna en el cielo, siendo creada por la madre tierra y al mismo tiempo, en su vientre gestándose, está la otra hija, el sol.
Tanto el sol y la luna están rodeadas por parte de un viejo símbolo celta que representa el bosque encantado, ya que gracias a su luz nacen y son protegidos todos los seres.

En la base del cuadro se ven los mousntros que se esconden de la luz.
A la derecha podemos ver las montañas donde los hombres se esconden con sus fogatas y de las cuales salen las oraciones que piden a la tierra la protección y la creación de las hermanas celestes.
Birth of Ilargi
The Earth, according to many legends of Euskal Herria, is the mother of the Sun and the Moon. It is also considered as an immense place, which serves as the abode for the souls of the deceased, and most of the numens and other mythical characters.
The Sun and the Moon are feminine divinities, daughters of the Earth. And they return to it every day after their journey through heaven.
One of the days of the week has been consecrated to the Moon: Fridays. It is called ostiral, a word that has a common element with Ilargi, another of the names by which the Moon is known.
Legend has it that at the beginning of time, when men began to populate the earth, neither sun nor moon existed and they were immersed in great darkness, frightened by numerous creatures, such as dragons, witches, flying horses, geniuses, etc.
Finally, in desperation, they decided to ask AMALUR (mother earth in Basque) for help.
At the insistence AMALUR told them: “My children, you ask for help and I will offer it to you. I will create a luminous being that you will call ILARGI (moon) ”.
Thus, AMALUR created the moon, which with its pale brightness illuminated the night.
At first the men did not dare to go out but, seeing that the evil geniuses fled from the light of ILARGI, they came out to celebrate. It so happened that the fright of the geniuses did not last forever and, little by little, they got used to its light and soon came out of their pits again and harassed the humans.
The men came again to AMALUR asking for something more powerful.
- “AMALUR. We are very grateful to you because you have given us the mother moon, but we need something more powerful since the geniuses do not stop chasing us ”.
- "Okay," said AMALUR, "I will create an even more luminous being that you will call EGUZKI.
And AMALUR created the Sun. In this way, the sun would illuminate the day and the moon the night.
In the painting the moon is represented in the sky, being created by mother earth and at the same time, in her womb, is the other daughter, the sun.
Both the sun and the moon are surrounded by part of an old Celtic symbol that represents the enchanted forest, since thanks to its light all beings are born and protected.
The circles behind the moon represent its different phases that govern life
At the base of the painting you can see the monsters that hide from the light.
To the right we can see the mountains where men hide with their bonfires and from which come the prayers that ask the earth for the protection and creation of the heavenly sisters.
